Jeremy and the Lie - September 15-29, 2006 -
YEA kicks off our first season in our new space with the world premiere
children's
production written and directed by YEA Alum Sharisa Whatley. Produced
as a partnership between YEA's Tippy Toes Arts and GRIP Programs, this
event features several YEA alumni.
SHE LIVES: Honoring Miss Katherine Dunham - October
15, 2006 -
YEA is thrilled to sponsor and host the SHE LIVES celebration with performances
of original Dunham choreography: "Choros" and "Barrelhouse
Blues" featuring
Ms. Cleo Parker Robinson,
the Grand Diva of Modern Dance. This one-night event is the culmination
of a weekend celebrating the work and majesty that is the modern artist
Katherine Dunham.
Colors of Love - December 11-16, 2006 -
YEA's holiday children's favorite returns to the stage with this fabulous
original musical created especially for the enjoyment of young children.
Created as the debut production of YEA's Tippy Toes Arts Program, Colors
of Love celebrates the real value of the holiday season - family,
togetherness, cooperation and love.
Urban Holiday Soup - December 14-23, 2006 -
YEA's perennial holiday favorite returns with a brand new helping of
music, comedy, dance
and theatre. This fun-filled variety show is sure to have you laughing
and your whole family leaving the theatre with a song. So grab a spoon
and come on down.
Black
History Stories - February 19-25, 2007 - YEA
is thrilled to celebrate Black History Month with something for
the children in all of us. These two collections of stories are
brilliantly adapted and performed by storytellers Veronica Byrd
and Bert Tanner. "Anywhere Everywhere Stories" are a collection
of stories for children ages 3 to 8 from around the world and their
own backyard. "The Bridge That Brought Us Over", created for kids
5 to 13, is a celebration of the African-American spirit from the
middle passage
to present
day.
Love
to All, Lorraine - March 21-25, 2007 -
Adapted and performed by the legendary Elizabeth Van Dyke, Lorraine reveals
the writer's history, inspirations, struggles, fears and rebellious sense
of fun. The New York Times proclaims "Elizabeth Van Dyke
creates presents a portrait of Lorraine Hansberry that sums up a great
range
of black
experience in this century... [Her] version of her is graceful,
powerful and immensely appealing. She accomplishes something remarkable
here; she lets you see a superb actress create, but never lets you forget
